Here are pictures of some of the beautiful and wonderful animals that we have rescued, rehabilitated, fostered or adopted out.

Current and Former SHS Residents

George

George

George was rescued from a warehouse in New Jersey.  He was 5 months old and had spent his entire life living in the bathroom at the warehouse.  When we went to pick up a new bird cage, they ask if we wanted a “free pig with purchase”.  Even though the people were very nice, they understood that pigs don’t belong in a warehouse.  Now he has a very large fenced in yard, a “pig palace” and a new best friend – Blu!

Blu, sleepy-head!

Blu, sleepy-head!

Blu is a bit more shy that George.  He loves people but doesn’t always love having his picture taken.  That’s why we love this picture of him sleeping.  He’s too cute! Blu was living at a rescue organization.  Although it was nice, he had never had a home of his own.  He was 11 months old when he came to SHS.  Pigs are herd animals and love the company of other pigs.  We arranged for Blu to live with us as a companion for George.  They are now best friends and do everything together!

Honey, 16 years old

Honey, 16 years old

Honey came to us at 16 yrs old, when her owner couldn’t keep her.  She required immediate dental surgery to remove 8 rotten teeth.  Sadly, we soon found out that she is deaf and has an aggressive form of cancer.  She requires medical treatment 4 times each day.  But she’s active and happy and loving life!

Beatrice

Beatrice

Beatrice came to us from an abusive home (she’s missing part of her tail!). We placed her in a forever home, with Honey, but sadly she was returned to us in 2014. She’s now a permanent resident of SHS.  We recently got her a FHO surgery to repair a chronic hip dislocation problem.

Fiona

Fiona

Fiona, came to us at 12 yrs old. We helped her survive lung cancer! She had her lung tumor removed in 2013 and the multiple rounds of chemotherapy.  Sadly, Fiona passed away in 2014 at 15.5 yrs. RIP baby girl!

Jack

Jack

Skellington Jack came to us at 12 years old. He survived going through Animal Control TWICE! He was severely neglected at a previous home. We had him fully vetted and neutered. He suffered from degenerative myelopathy. We took him weekly to acupuncture and bought him a wheelchair. He was a sweet, loving dog and a favorite of the neighborhood children.  Sadly, Jack passed away at 14 years old. RIP baby boy!

Ralph, 6 weeks old

Ralph, 6 weeks old

Ralph was found by a neighbor when he was just 2 weeks old!  He had a permenantly broken beak, so he could never be released to the wild.  That’s ok because he seems to love people more than he loves other birds!  Ralph is now 6 years old and lives with Boeing and Pa, the other two SHS pigeons.

(there are many more residents at SHS!  More pictures coming soon!)

Rescued and Adopted Out To Other Homes

  • Daisy. Rescued from abusers in 2012. We fully vetted and spayed her and placed her in a home!
  • Winnie.  Was found tied up on the street.  We placed her with a foster family and they were kind enough to pay when she had to have emergency surgery for bowel obstruction!  We found her a new forever home less than 6 months later.
  • Bootsy, 4 week old kitten found outside, adopted out to a loving home
  • Mugsy, 4 week old kitten, Bootsy’s sister.  She also found a loving home
  • Oliver, 8 month old kitten, was unwanted by his young owner.  He was so cute, we quickly found him a loving home.
