About Us

Katherine Compitus, Chairman/President
Katherine is a native of New York City, where she was always surrounded by pets. She shared her childhood with 3 cats, gerbils, guinea pigs, rabbits and fish. She spent summers horseback riding in upstate NY. Katherine has dedicated her life to learning about animal (and human) behavior.  She has an MSEd in Education from Hunter College, an MSW from NYU, with a focus on Veterinary Social Work, and an MA in Psychology from Hunter College in Animal Behavior and Conservation.  She has extensive experience training animals of all ages, sizes and species, and she uses only positive reinforcement techniques.  In 2009, Katherine opened Wiggly Pups, a luxury dog daycare, in NYC with her husband, Paul.  Before opening Wiggly Pups, she worked for the NYC Mayor’s Alliance for Animals and was a grief counselor at the Animal Medical Center.  Katherine is a New York State Licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator. She is passionate about animal welfare,  has been a vegetarian for over 25 years and vegan for the past 4 years.  Katherine is a licensed clinical social worker specializing in Veterinary Social Work and actively promotes responsible pet ownership.  She is an educator who lectures all over the world on the importance of maintaining the human-animal bond and the benefits of animal-assisted therapy.
